My Kindergartner and preschooler had the opportunity to work through “The Home Art Studio”, with Lindsey Volin, Kindergarten program last school year. We received the Kindergarten video and art supplies in exchange for a review of the curriculum. All the opinions are mine and those of my children.
The Home Art Studio curriculum was a fantastic art curriculum to have to teach my children. We worked through the entire curriculum and had a great time in art class. The curriculum is easy to use and very parent and child friendly.
Lindsey does a great job showing each step in the projects as well as explaining the art concepts in each project. My children were excited each time we got out the materials for art class and wanted to know if they’d be having art class on the TV. They loved the way Lindsey “interacted” with them. I loved that the curriculum was prepared and ready to go whenever I needed it to be.
The projects were great for my children. My Kindergartner especially loved it when it was art class time and the projects were perfect for him to complete independently. I did have to help my preschooler with the projects just a bit, but that’s to be expected. We were working on the Kindergarten curriculum.
Some of my favorite projects included the Van Gough Inspired Sunflowers, “My Garden”, and the Texture Hunt – leaf and caterpillar. I loved the colors and medium usage in each of these projects. I loved how each project helped my children develop their sense of composition and color. Each project progressed in difficulty and detail as the year moved forward, and each project taught another art concept while building fine motor skills. I loved the vocabulary and technique discussions used in the lessons for this curriculum.
The curriculum has both a video component as well as a PDF file full of lesson plans that accompany the video component. It also includes a delicious recipe for sticky buns, to go along with a Sculpey activity. The lessons in the PDF file include vocabulary, literacy activities, tips for parents, and further extension activities for the children to do. The lesson plans are very impressive in their creativity, focus, and depth. Each lesson is tied to national standards, which is also great! This is definitely a curriculum that can be used, year-to-year, without becoming repetitive. Each lesson has different layers that can be added as students gain better art skills. And the website also offers free art classes to enrich the experiences of the children.
The At Home Art Studio curriculum is available for students from Kindergarten to fifth grade. Lindsey has also created a fun holiday arts and crafts video for the holiday seasons. The videos, each containing a year’s worth of instruction, for only $29.99 each. And, because school is starting, Lindsey is offering a back to school special on her website www.officalhomeartstudio.com. If two videos are purchased, then Lindsey will add in the “Holiday Arts and Crafts” video free. The videos are a great deal and create a fantastic curriculum for any aged student.
